Anatomy of A Scene in Seattle Grace

April 15, 2008

In Seattle Grace Hospital, the events that take place often constitute despair, longing and heartbreak. Of the four seasons of the television series, the second is my favorite. It was a season of forming friendships, surviving relationships and interesting medical cases.

Yesterday, I went through all 27 episodes and captured the highlights of season two. While reviewing them, I noticed that there were five different places in the hospital where the most captivating scenes took place.

Number one. The exam room. We all know the famous scene at the prom where Derek was chasing Meredith and they end up in the exam room, nagging each other and then leading to the heart-tickling reunion capping the season finale.

Number two. The locker room. This common place for interns have subjected Meredith, Cristina, George, Izzie and Alex to several tests of their friendship. But they get to patch things up anyway in the locker room.

Number three. The stairs. Conversations in the stairways have usually been about the secrets of the interns. Here the secret relationship of Burke and Cristina was surreptitiously known by George when Chief Webber made him eavesdrop on things happening in the hospital.

George even fell from the stairs when everyone knew that Meredith slept with him. Poor George.

Number four. The linen room. Remember the scene where Meredith expressed her fear of the thought of her mother dying alone? Derek once again followed her in the linen room and gave her comfort when she needed it most.

And number five. The elevator. Only if these elevators could speak, they have so many wonderful tales to tell.

The happy Meredith and Derek also shared light moments here. But most often, both of them can turn depressed and exhausted over a big factor which is Addison who is clearly in the way of their love for each other.

How a particular scene in Grey's Anatomy is made is carefully thought of by Shonda Rhimes and her team of talented writers. That is for sure. They know which scene to be shot in any one of the memorable places in Seattle Grace.

It is always refreshing to go back to these memorable episodes of Season 2. Browsing through the storylines actually prepare me for the continuation of Season 4.
